Soft Tissue Mobilization Physical Therapy

Many people think that physical therapy means that your treatment will be all exercises and stretches, which isn’t the case. While exercises and stretches are a common part of physical therapy, these methods alone won’t treat some of the alignments and concerns people seeking physical therapy have. If you have a soft tissue injury, such as a strain or sprain, one method your physical therapist in NEPA might use to help your injury heal is soft tissue mobilization.

When you’re suffering from a soft-tissue injury, you need to get the right help so you can recover quickly and safely. At Cawley Physical Therapy, we provide soft tissue mobilization in NEPA that can help you heal from your injury and get you back to normal.

How Does Soft Tissue Mobilization Work?

Instruments-assisted soft tissue mobilization uses various stainless steel instruments designed to be used on certain parts of the body. This is a non-invasive technique that helps treat muscle fascia restrictions and scar tissue. First, a physical therapist will help determine where exactly the injured area is. Physical therapists manually press the instrument into the injured area using different techniques depending on the injury. How much soft tissue mobilization a person requires will depend on the extent of their injury, and other methods of physical therapy may also be used to treat the injury.

Soft tissue mobilization is often used for injuries like tendinitis, sprains, and muscle tightness, but it can be used for more than these types of soft tissue injuries. This is also a common form of therapy that people undergo following surgery. Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization can help treat scar tissue following surgery to help the area heal faster, making it a valuable part of many people’s post-operative rehab .

What are the Benefits of Soft Tissue Mobilization?

Like many methods of physical therapy, soft tissue mobilization provides several different benefits. The most obvious benefit of soft tissue mobilization is that it helps provide relief from soft tissue injuries. Not only are these injuries painful, but they can also make it difficult to move your body normally. With soft tissue mobilization, you can help regain mobility in the injured area so you can move more easily and without discomfort. Some experience a faster recovery with soft tissue mobilization, so you can help reduce the amount of time you have to struggle with an injury. This is also a preferable treatment for many, as it doesn’t require medication or an invasive procedure.
